I’m a big fan of Marina and the Diamonds,why? she is all about clever lyrics masked in pop and covered in the sugary archetype of the modern female. Like in her album Electra Heart where she tries on different masks and persona’s. From the Teen Idle blond too the home wrecker. So I’m more then excited about FROOT and hearing something new.
Froot,is a sexy bold super sugary disco single with smart lyrics. But its not without depth,I think. If you read the lyrics you have to appreciate how smart they are and how maybe they mask something more. Like the circle of life and how love and romance need to be tended too so they don’t wither and die. We forget that,but talking about sex and love in metaphors of fruit and flowers isn’t silly,
Romance is simple,but it needs some effort and the right momentum to thrive. Marina combines her vocals to tell a story of love that is touched by sadness and yearning,
Guess Marina’s sun sign? Yes a Libra she is! And who else to embody the intellectual cleverness in her music with the flashy style and beauty? Similar to Gwen Stefani she takes the archetype of the female and gives it a twist,playing with culture and fashion. But with a strong say about longing and love. Libra knows how to be sexy and how to wear the right mask and as such they tend to hurt a great deal in their hearts and relationships. Because they can charm and live the fairytale but without having real inner needs met by the partner.
Marina Diamndis has her moon in the sign of Leo,adding a flare for drama and stage presence. Both her Venus and mars are in the sign of Virgo. I think the combination of Libra and Virgo in a chart makes a person deeply clever,smart,good with words. With mercury in Libra writing songs about Libra subjects makes sense. Writing about beauty and love in the eyes of society for example. as apposed to writing about love from a Scorpio prospective that is more personal,yet less universal.
In a simplistic way I would say this is a chart of a charming person,clever,good with words more intellectual then emotional and yet in need of balance. With the moon in Leo a great sensitivity and need for passion is apposed to the “smart’ nature of Venus in Virgo. But Virgo is an earth sign and as such is very sensual as well. If allowed this person can deeply love and commit to helping a partner. Mars in Virgo likes to work and help a partner and make them better,which is good as long as they don’t try and remake the person they love. The moon in Leo is good here though for it allows Marina to even be a public figure. Virgo alone doesn’t like the stage,and most stars like Madonna or Beyonce have strong Leo,Libra or scorpio to help them out.
FROOT is just this blend of sensuality with very detailed lyrics (Virgo) build on word play and fun (Libra). All with the yearning for perfect romance when the fruit is still ripe (Leo moon). as well as some dark undertone of knowing it can not be and being faced with restrictions…If only love could be so fun! Marina and the diamond is still and outsider and with her Saturn in Scorpio is bound to always feel like one. But she is just as bound to shine in what shes good at. Becoming successful in the public sphere she can be the outsider that becomes the mainstream embodiment of a pop star. While still being critical of that stardom,all along telling us stories we can relate to.
